Career and Leadership Courses
Division of Student Affairs Mission:
As an integral partner in fulfilling the mission of Indiana University, the Division of Student Affairs prepares students to succeed as productive citizens and leaders in a global society.
To further this mission the Career Development Center and Office of Student Life and Learning have formed strategic partnerships with the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Education to offer academic courses to prepare students for success as leaders in their careers upon graduation from IU. These courses count for elective academic credit in any major program on the Bloomington campus.

Below are a couple examples of how you can include LEAD IU and career development courses as electives in your program of study:
EDUC U206 Orientation to College Life and ASCS Q294 Basic Career Development
EDUC U206 introduces students to the resources of the university, facilitating the creation of an academic and co-curricular involvement plan for success at IU. ASCS Q294 provides freshman and sophomore level students the opportunity to engage in a 3-fold process of self-discovery, major and career exploration and decision making. Through taking this course students can gain direction in their journey to get involved on campus and become skilled leaders.
EDUC U 495 Emotionally Intelligent Leadership and ASCS Q299 Marketing Yourself for the Job and Internship Search
EDUC U495 uses the scholarship of emotional intelligence as a framework for understanding individual leadership styles. Within this framework students identify strategies to maximize their leadership strengths. ASCS Q299 provides sophomores, juniors and seniors with the tools to conduct industry and employer research, facilitating a persuasive, tailored approach to the development of their resume, cover letter and interviewing strategies. Effective self-marketing involves reflection on past achievements with a focus on building a firm leadership foundation.
