The Robert Shaffer Undergraduate Leadership Interns Skype with Dr. Shaffer

Shaffer Interns (from left to right), Catherine Gibson, Maggie Wittman, Kelsea Nicholson, Justin Shukas, and Tegan McQuaid (not pictured) and SAO staff Leslie Fasone, R.J. Woodring, and Chris Medrano skyping with Dr. Shaffer.

The Robert Shaffer Undergraduate Leadership Interns are pictured skyping with Dr. Shaffer on Friday afternoon, March 25, 2011.  Dr. Shaffer, the former Dean of Students and the Dean of the Higher Education Program, was at his home in New Smyrna Beach, FL.  The students are part of an internship funded by the Quality of Student Life and Student Life Enrichment Fund.

Five undergraduate students, selected to serve as interns in the Student Activities Office were excited to schedule a Skype meeting with Doctor Shaffer.  The students spent an hour talking with Dr. Shaffer.  They had many questions for him, but Dr. Shaffer, professor that he is, started by asking them all questions! It was a lively dialog about being a student leader and being a student affairs professional.  Professional staff from Student Activities got some questions in, as well.

The students were so excited to meet the man for whom their internship is named and found it way cool that he loves to Skype!  Everyone who has ever known Dr. Shaffer is not surprised that at 95 years old he is still ahead of his time!
