Dr. Harold “Pete” Goldsmith has been a higher education administrator for over thirty five years. Dr. Goldsmith has worked in a variety of institutional settings, including St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Western Illinois University, Old Dominion University, Michigan State University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and Kent State University. He has held a variety of positions in student affairs and general administration at these institutions. As Dean of Students at IU, he is responsible for the Division of Student Affairs which provides student support services; removes barriers for students; and enriches students’ educational experiences.
Dr. Goldsmith has given over 100 presentations at state, regional, national, and international conferences. He has presented programs and workshops on strategic planning and management, the impact of technology on higher education and student affairs, and continuous quality improvement.
Dr. Goldsmith holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from Indiana University, Bloomington; a Masters of Education in Student Personnel Administration from the American University; and a Doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Indiana University, Bloomington.
Dr. Goldsmith is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honorary, Order of Omega Greek Leadership Honorary, Golden Key National Honor Society, Phi Beta Delta Honorary for International Students and Scholars, and an honorary member of Kappa Delta Rho fraternity. In 1977, the Outstanding Resident Assistant Award at St. Mary’s College of Maryland was named in his honor. In 2010, he received IU’s Department of Student Affairs and Higher Education Shafer Award for distinguished service, scholarship, and administrative leadership.
