Student Organization Awards

SLL’s Student Organization Awards recognize the successes and accomplishments of student organizations, advisors, and student leaders.

The deadline to apply for the 2014 Awards has passed. Please check out our list of previous award winners!

1.  Civic Engagement Award: The organization demonstrates through action the importance of serving the campus, community, country, and the world. Winning organization receives $100 to their Student Organization Account (SOA).

2.  Collaboration & Inclusion Award: The organization exhibits an appreciation for the unique abilities and perspectives among members, the campus, and the greater community. Winning organization receives $100 to their SOA.

3.  Leadership Development Award: The organization facilitates leadership development and promotes leadership opportunities for its members, the campus, and the community. Winning organization receives $100 to their SOA.

4.  Up & Coming Student Organization Award: Exceptional applications from the Civic Engagement, Collaboration & Inclusion, and Leadership Development awards will be considered for this award. There is no additional application. The organization must be at least within its 1st-2nd year. Winning organization receives $250 to their SOA.

5.  McKaig Legacy Award: This award is for organizations that have been registered for 2+ years. The student organization must be able to showcase how they embody the legacy of Dean McKaig. Exceptional applications from the Civic Engagement, Collaboration & Inclusion, and Leadership Development awards will be considered for this award. There is no additional application. Winning organization receives $250 to their SOA.

6.  Up & Coming Student Leader Award: Freshman, sophomores, and juniors whose vision, vitality, and diligence have made significant contributions to the campus and community are encouraged to apply. Student must submit 2 recommendation letters, a resume of co-curricular activities, and a maximum 200 word essay on accomplishments, future goals, and what he or she has learned as a student leader. All materials must be submitted together to saosoc@indiana.edu. Winner receives a prize from the IU Bookstore.

7.  McKaig Legacy Student Leader Award: Graduating seniors whose vision, vitality, and diligence have made significant contributions to the campus and community are encouraged to apply. Students must submit 2 recommendation letters, a resume of co-curricular activities, and a maximum 200 word essay on accomplishments, future goals, and what he or she has learned as a student leader. All materials must be submitted together to saosoc@indiana.edu. Winner receives a diploma frame from the IU Bookstore.

8.  Student Organization Advisor of the Year Award: Students may nominate their advisor by submitting 2 letters of recommendation on behalf of their advisor addressing why they believe their advisor should receive this honor. One page single space maximum for each letter. Please email the 2 letters together to saosoc@indiana.edu. Winner receives a prize from the IU Bookstore.
